Welcome to Space: We are looking for a Software Developer with a profound background in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation!
You will work in a team of remote sensing experts to develop satellite payload processing applications – for major ESA/EUMETSAT Earth Observation missions or also “NewSpace” endeavors. You should have an in-depth understanding of payload processing and retrieval methods for multi- and hyperspectral imagers and have a natural affinity to software development.
And yes, it is really cool to work on space projects!
This full-time and permanent position with an immediate starting date is based at our headquarters in Darmstadt.

Key Responsibilities
- Development and maintenance of L1 and L2 payload processing applications for multi- and hyperspectral missions, e.g. Sentinel-2 or PRISMA
- Optimization and refactoring of developed code to fulfill architectural and performance requirements
- Support the transfer and deployment of the processors to the operational environment
- Provide scientific support and take an active role in the formulation of requirements for future products and services
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- University degree (Master of Science) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline
- A PhD in a relevant discipline would be advantageous
- Very good understanding of scientific software development, remote sensing and algorithms
- Very good knowledge of Python, optimally including Jupyter notebooks
- Familiarity with Linux and shell scripting
- Working experience with remote sensing data
- Organised and methodical working attitude with strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation
- Proficiency in English
Desirable
- Hands-on experience with containerization standards (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Cloud-based computing and parallelization
- Familiarity with common formats, e.g. XML, netCDF or HDF
- Curious and proactive attitude towards problem solving and exploring new technologies
- Having worked within the space industry
