Mission Brief
We deliver the half of the rocket that stays on the ground. As Manager of the Mechanical Ground Systems Team at Isar Aerospace, you lead the team building infrastructure for Spectrum rocket testing and launches, collaborating with development teams and balancing technical and management responsibilities. You own the scope of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE), which includes among others the Launch Table and the Transport Erector as key elements for a successful rocket launch.
Your Role in Our Space Mission
- Lead and build a team of mechanical and aerospace engineers, ensuring that the mechanical ground infrastructure is designed according to coherent standards and processes while taking ownership of technical work packages yourself
- Own and drive the design, development, and realization of heavy mechanical systems within larger projects, including requirements management, technical coordination, documentation, risk assessments, design reviews, compliance evaluation (e.g. safety standards for machinery, pressure equipment, lifting devices), and support during commissioning activities
- Manage and technically steer external suppliers and contractors, including specification, review, acceptance, on-site supervision, and ensure proactive communication and collaboration throughout project phases
- Ensure mechanical ground systems are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and performance requirements through effective workforce planning with the overall project managers
- Enable employees to perform at their best by conducting performance reviews, developing them according to their strengths and company needs and providing guidance to engineers of all experience levels
- Travel activity to construction and test sites for on-site coordination tasks
- Support operations, maintenance concepts, and lifecycle management of mechanical ground systems after commissioning
Qualification Checklist
- B.Sc./M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years proven experience leading and developing engineering teams in the field of special machinery or heavy mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or equivalent
- In-depth knowledge in minimum one of the fields of heavy mechanical structures, special purpose vehicle engineering, test bench construction, offshore structures or similar
- Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-changing, high-responsibility environment with can-do attitude and creative thinking
- Advanced know-how about Project Management in mechanical engineering/ process facilities/ civil engineering, or similar
- Fluent in German and English
- Pragmatic, hands-on engineering mindset combined with structured decision making
Bonus Skills
- Knowledge of rocket propulsion technology and/or test facility design for aerospace applications
- Knowledge of mechanical aspects of process plant engineering
- 3D modelling competence, e.g. AutoCAD or Siemens NX
- Structural analysis experience in Ansys, NASTRAN or similar
- Experience with hydraulic system design
- Experience with systems designed for outdoor, ideally offshore environments
