Job description

Let’s build the fossil-free future

At Greenlyte, we are reshaping the global fuel economy with our novel, IP-protected, direct air capture to fuels technology, which shows superior economic potential compared to existing approaches, even reaching fossil prices. Backed by leading European VCs and with commercial agreement from Lufthansa and MB Energy, we are deploying our first commercial facilities to prove commercial viability in the next 12 months.

Where Ambition Meets Purpose
We are not waiting for change. We are building it together. At Greenlyte, speed and collaboration define how we work. Our culture rewards initiative, learning, and teamwork. If you want to grow fast, take ownership, and shape real impact, this is the place to do it.

How you'll contribute

We build plants that pull CO2 directly from the air and turn it into fuel. That puts unique demands on electrical engineering, from small-scale test rigs all the way to full commercial facilities. As our Electrical Engineer, you make sure our systems do not just work, but are safe, code-compliant, and built to last. You design, you own, you deliver.

How you will contribute
  • Create and maintain complete electrical documentation using SolidWorks Electrical, including schematics, terminal plans, cable schedules, and circuit diagrams.
  • Ensure all electrical systems comply with VDE regulations and relevant EN and IEC standards.
  • Size cables, circuit protection, variable frequency drives, motor starters, and other motion systems with safety requirements front of mind.
  • Design fail-safe electrical circuits using safety logic controllers and safety-rated relays.
  • Work closely with the process and automation team to safely commission and sign off on interdisciplinary systems.
  • Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems on-site using test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and EMI probes.

Months 1 to 3
You dive into our existing test stand documentation and plant designs. You create your first electrical schematics, I/O lists, and cable schedules for one of our test rigs, and join the team for Factory Acceptance Testing.

Months 4 to 6
You work on the electrical design for an active plant project. You identify improvement potential in existing control cabinets and develop concrete proposals together with the team.

Months 7 to 12
You contribute actively to the electrical concept for our next generation of plants. You drive upgrades to existing test stands independently and become the go-to person for normative questions across project teams.

About you

Must-have
  • Degree in electrical engineering, or a comparable engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in the design and commissioning of industrial electrical systems.
  • Confident working with EPLAN or SolidWorks Electrical to produce complete electrical documentation.
  • Knowledge of VDE regulations and relevant EN standards such as EN 60204 and EN ISO 13849.
  • Experience sizing protection components, cables, VFDs, and motor control systems.
  • Willingness to travel to site for commissioning and hands-on work.
You do not need to master everything yet. What matters beyond the basics: you are curious, hands-on, and ready to take real ownership. If you are currently working in a large organization where good ideas move slowly and bureaucracy gets in the way of building, you will feel at home here.

Nice-to-have
  • Background in electrical design for power plants, chemical process plants, or comparable industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of functional safety (IEC 61508 / SIL) or machinery safety (ISO 13849).
  • Basic familiarity with process control, SCADA, or industrial communication protocols such as Modbus or Profibus.
  • Experience with high-voltage or medium-voltage systems.
  • Understanding of EMC-compliant cabinet design and earthing concepts.

What we offer

  • Work with direct, measurable impact on global decarbonisation. Not a talking point, an engineering reality.
  • 30 days of vacation plus public holidays.
  • A role that scales with the company. You define what Electrical Engineering looks like at Greenlyte.
  • Flat hierarchies and a direct feedback culture where your work is visible and your voice shapes decisions.
  • Founders who build with conviction and long-term thinking, not short-term noise.
  • Relocation support if you are moving to Essen from elsewhere.

Noteworthy points

This role is based in Essen. We expect regular on-site presence, particularly during commissioning phases and hands-on work at test stands. Remote work is possible where the work allows for it. We are happy to support relocation for the right candidate.
